ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Julie Baldwin, and I have had over 15 years of experience in the field of illustration and design. I possess a bachelor’s degree in fine art and a Master’s degree in art history. I am a capable illustrator and designer, able to provide considerable experience within my field, and can reliably produce high-quality work in a timely manner. I possess common-sense, am organized, and am driven to both continually grow and provide value. In everything I do, I seek to uphold both quality and integrity.
MY WORK/EDUCATION HISTORY:
From 2002 to 2007 I studied fine art at Grand Valley State University in West Michigan, and graduated with a BFA in illustration. While there, I also took on coursework that gratified my budding interests in graphic design and art history. Afterward, I successfully applied for my first full-time job as a graphic designer and illustrator for a company that publishes educational books for kids.
In August of 2009 I decided to return to school, and I was accepted at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where I focused my postgraduate research on illustration and graphic design in England during World War II. My master's thesis examined how ephemeral images (short-lived images, like images in posters, ads, or comics) affected concepts of identity for those living in England at that time. My research investigated how these images enabled new or changing ideas to be ingrained within the public mindset in ways that other forms of art or communication could not.
Upon returning to Michigan in 2010, I began full-time work as a freelance designer and illustrator and also focused my efforts on producing artwork. I began to operate a one-person design studio out of Grand Rapids (Baldwin Art & Design Studio), working freelance and selling art.
